Sharm Action for Animals (S.A.F.A.) was established in 2011 when some concerned animal lovers became aware of the ever increasing numbers of stray, abandoned, abused and injured animals in Sharm.
We immediately began to raise funds for food and veterinary care plus supporting the transportation of the lucky ones who found loving homes in other countries.
SAFA are now very active in TNR programme (Trap, Neuter, and Release) of the street animals. The animals are collected and delivered to the Helping Hands Rescue Centre. The vets operate there and the animals stay for the appropriate post op recovery time before being returned to the spot they were collected from. Although it is sometimes an extremely emotional ‘tug’ to put an animal back out onto the street, It is a proven remedy. By returning the animal to its familiar territory, it rejoins the life it knows, but being unable to re-produce has reduced the huge problem of ever increasing numbers. The additional benefit of the TNR Programme is by returning the animal to its original habitat, has stopped other dogs moving in from the desert.
We are trying desperately to raise funds and in conjunction, endeavor to educate by attending local schools and getting the children involved. We hope as a long term goal, this goodwill towards animals spreads far and wide.
We also would like you to know that every single person that is involved with S.A.F.A. is a 100% volunteer, We do not, at this time, have any volunteer vets and this is where a large percentage of our fund raising has to be allocated.
Adoption, fostering and sponsoring of the animals is always actively encouraged with visitors given a warm welcome by humans and animals alike.
Every animal deserves to know what it feels like to be safe and loved and with your help……
We really can make a difference !!
